A physical programming environment, this exhibit introduces concepts in computer programming and signal processing to people of all ages. By converting the act of programming into a physical experience, the setting empowers playfulness, creativity, improvisation, and real-time collaboration—skills that are notoriously difficult to develop through conventional screen-based programming.

Comprised of multiple input and output devices, the entire area works in harmony as a physical programming environment for playful explorations of sound, video and motion.

The structure features a set of physical components that can be freely connected together and adjusted in order to control various devices in and around the compound.

The hexagonal design includes three entrances and three programming consules with each consule facing the resulting programming outcome. For example, the video programming console faces the large free-standing video totem which will display the program generated at the console.

The programming consoles control three main output devices: LCD totem (light), Bell totem (sound),and the water jet system.

The area installation includes a custom programming paradigm that has been developed specifically towards accomodating the exceptionally diverse audience.
